Republic of Ireland: Manifesto sets out blueprint for change
Make dementia a health priority, says Alzheimer Society
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s Dementia Manifesto 2007-2009 sets out a three–year strategy of solutions and targeted investment in order to meet the needs of individuals and families affected by Alzheimers disease and other dementias.
It urges that ‘the time for action is now’ and concludes that dementia, which affects approximately 38,000 people in Ireland and impacts directly on their carers and families, must be recognised by Government and policy–makers as a national health priority.
The Dementia Manifesto outlines solutions to what it calls the inadequate and disjointed policy, planning and service issues which affect those with dementia. The Society says it offers a clear, achievable and realistic blueprint for change which includes a call to the state to invest €105 million over the next three years to care for people with dementia.
