One billion baht allocated for care projects for elderly
Projects designed to promote health care services for the elderly have been announced by the Deputy Health Minister, Morakot Kornkasem.
The scheme, which marks the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King, consists of 13 projects over the course of the year for which the sum of one billion baht [over $300,000] has been allocated.
The projects will focus on those over 80 years of age who are in need of special care or treatment for declining health, according to Mr Morakot, who explained that the services available range from dental and optical care to regular check–ups for diabetes and blood pressure as well as psychological rehabilitation.
The number of octogenarians in Thailand is approaching 650,000 and is expected to increase significantly over the next decade.
