Accra declaration campaigns to improve road safety
African Ministers responsible for health and transport have resolved to work together to stop the growing epidemic of death and injuries on the roads, and have reaffirmed road safety as a key development priority at the African Road Safety Conference held recently in Accra.
The ministers pledged to set and achieve measurable national targets for road safety and injury prevention in all member states. The ‘Accra Declaration’ recommends that a lead agency be established to deal specifically with road safety issues and should work to half the number of accident fatalities in this part of the world by 2015.
