Agreement to double aid to Palestinians this year
The Icelandic Government is to double its contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency [UNRWA] to 0.2 million USD in 2007.
The UNRWA provides education, healthcare, social services and emergency aid to approximately 4.3 million Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.
The donation was announced after a meeting between the Icelandic Foreign Minister and the Commissioner General of UNRWA, where they discussed the conditions of Palestinian refugees and the current situation in Gaza and the West Bank.
