Canada invests $8 million in two projects:
Nova Scotia aims for shorter waiting times for patients
Nova Scotia Minister of Health Tony Clement recently announced plans to spend $8 million on two pilots for Patient Wait Time Guarantees. The new projects will test the waiting time guarantees in the areas of diagnostic imaging, for example, scans, and orthopaedic surgical services.
The first project aims to improve access to orthopaedic care by building a strong, province–wide information network and by testing alternative care options when wait times are exceeded. It will streamline access to orthopaedic services through a surgical care network, and give patients more options as to when and where they receive care.
The second project to improve access to diagnostic imaging services should improve efficiency and engage patients in the process. It will help doctors to order appropriate tests and empower patients to make informed decisions.
