New Zealand: Healthcare providers work in partnership
Beating the Blues computerised therapy demonstration
The company Ultrasis which provides interactive healthcare products, is to work with Opening Doors Limited, a provider of psychological healthcare in New Zealand, which will act as a distribution partner for the Ultrasis product, ‘Beating the Blues’.
Beating the Blues, a computerised cognitive behavioural therapy [CBT], will be demonstrated in four communities that cover a population of 150,000 people. The aim is to show the clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness of CBT in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Ultrasis considers this approach particularly suitable for large geographical areas where smaller populations often find access to specialised local healthcare can be severely restricted. One of the pilot sites, Tihewa Mayuiora, Kiakohe, will look at how the programme could support those from the Maori population and what cultural modifications may be required in future.
With a shortage of CBT trained therapists in New Zealand, Beating the Blues could enable more rapid access to therapy and help support healthcare organisations to deliver improved healthcare.
