Belize Health Sector Reform Project for mentally ill:
Day care facility opens and training manual for police
The new Port Loyola Acute Mental Health Day Care facility has been designed to help in the daily management of acute psychiatric patients and in the daily hygiene management of ‘homeless’ chronic psychiatric cases.
Promoted under the Belize Health Sector Reform Project, the building was officially handed over in October at a total cost of $304, 465 [Belize] and has accommodation for doctors and nurses, as well as dining and kitchen areas.
At the same time a new training manual has been published by the Ministry of Health for police officers who deal with those with mental health disorders, under guidelines issued in accordance with the current mental health policy.
