Uruguay: Non–communicable diseases prevention project
World Bank loan aids national health service delivery
Non–communicable diseases [NCD’s] now claim more lives in Uruguay than infectious diseases, according to the World Bank. In recognition of this fact, the bank has approved a loan for US$25.3 million to support the Uruguay Government in its efforts to strengthen the delivery of health services and the current framework for NCD’s.
The NCD prevention project will increase the accessibility and quality of primary health care services related to the most important diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and cancer, with a focus on early diagnosis and medical treatment. It also aims to reduce people’s exposure to selected NCD’s in the first place.
Technical assistance and information and communication's technology equipment, paid for by the loan, will further aid the project.
