Guyana: Construction underway of ophthalmology unit
Port Mourant eye care centre planned to open this year
A highly advanced ophthalmology centre under construction in Port Mourant is well on the way to being built, reports the Government Information Agency in Guyana. It should open this year and people from neighbouring countries are expected to benefit as well as local residents.
The health sector in Guyana is now managed by a regional health authority to ensure more efficient delivery of health services. Regional chairman, Zulficar Mustapha, said much work has been done on the eye centre and on existing institutions like the Mibicuri, Fort Wellington and New Amsterdam Hospitals, where improved services have already benefited the regions citizens.
The Government says the new ophthalmology centre further demonstrates its commitment to improve the quality of health services, particularly in eye care.
