Reliable information ‘crucial’ in fight against flu virus

Since Nigeria recorded its first case of a human death from avian flu last year, the provision of information and knowledge of preventative measures to the public has become the most crucial component in the fight against the virus, said Information and Communication Minister Frank Nweke Jnr at the 37th Session of the National Council.

The Minister affirmed that his Department’s role in the containment of the virus must be concurrent, complementary and unmistakable as correct information. He went on to say that all involved in the information and communication sector must promote a framework that emphasises accurate, timely and development–orientated dissemination of information, as this is the central quotient in social development.
