Liberia: ‘Remarkable gesture’, says Minister of Health
Children’s Fund and France donate anti–malaria drugs
The United Nations Childrens Fund and France has donated nearly $400,000 worth of anti–malaria drugs to the Government of Liberia.
Dr Walter Gwenigale, Liberia’s Minister of Health, welcomed the news and underscored the seriousness of Malaria in Liberia. He said, “This is a truly remarkable gesture for the people of Liberia, especially children and pregnant women who suffer the most. We are dealing with a situation where when 50 patients enter a clinic, 25 of them are malaria infected.”
The shipment represents more than 678,000 treatments and will be joined by a second donation to Burundi later this year.
