Australia: Health assessment help for the elderly
Frail senior citizens to get more help with care options
Funds to help frail older Australians who need advice about their care options will be increased to $68.5 million the Government announced recently. The Aged Care Assessment Program ensures that frail elderly Australians who are no longer able to manage at home without assistance can get advice about suitable care services.
The Program uses multi–disciplinary aged care assessment teams, which can include health professionals, such as doctors, nurses, social workers and physiotherapists, to approve older people for aged care services.
Services include residential aged care, community aged care packages or flexible care, such as extended aged care at home along with dementia specific packages or transition care.
